Michelle Havill - Founder

Why Organic?

Did you know that 8,000 different kinds of chemicals can go into the making of one item of clothing Just one!

At Babiroo, we care about customers… our real customers: babies and kids. Babies have immune systems that are not fully developed, making them more susceptible to infections and illnesses. Clothing them in apparel that is composed of chemicals compromises their overall health.

And let’s not forget the farmers and labourers who are working in those highly polluted conditions. Many cotton pickers from developing countries suffer from illnesses directly related to the chemicals they are exposed to. Health conditions such as respiratory issues, skin irritations and eye infections are very common.

That’s why we love spreading the word about organic cotton. We want to get back to that place when things were good and wholesome. Help Babiroo fulfil that dream.

Parents are gravitating towards organic baby clothing to limit the exposure that their little ones get to toxic chemicals that are used in the making of everyday fabrics. Non-organic baby clothing is often made from synthetic fibres manufactured with petrochemicals, acrylic (polycrylonitriles), PVC, and esters that are linked to a variety of health problems.

The trend of organic baby clothes is part of a larger trend towards organic clothing, as more people become aware of the significant effects that the textile industry has on our environment. Today nearly 20% of all water pollution occurs through the making of non-organic clothing.

Babiroo is Sustainable

Our organic cotton is grown at a Biodynamic farm in Egypt, called Sekem. Biodynamic agriculture is a method of Organic farming that applies a holistic understanding of life processes. As one of the first sustainable agriculture movements, it treats soil fertility, plant growth, and livestock care as ecologically interrelated tasks emphasising spiritual and cosmic perspectives. Sekem was founded on these principles of holistic and sustainable approach to organic agriculture and shares our values and commitment to sustainability.

100% authentic Egyptian Cotton for our products, but now we’ve gone the extra mile to earn the certification. Our cotton fibres underwent complete DNA testing to verify our fibres as authentic Egyptian Cotton. Only 1% of the entire world’s cotton is true Egyptian Cotton.

The Egyptian Cotton seed combined with Egypt’s climate produces cotton with extra long fibres and that makes Egyptian Cotton uniquely soft, durable and high quality. This certification was attained in partnership with Sekem, our sustainable organic cotton supplier, who is named on the certificate. Under the Nile and Babiroo are the only baby clothing company authorised to use the certification.
